October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In an effort to broaden awareness, during the month of October, every member of our funeral home family will be wearing a pink tie or scarf during all wake and funeral services, as well as pink pins. Complimentary pink pins are available in the Funeral Home foyer. We encourage you to take one and wear it to help spread awareness as one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, according to the Susan G. Komen website. For helpful information on breast cancer as well as symptoms and statistics, please visit http://ww5.komen.org. To assist in the fight against Breast Cancer we will be donating to Susan G. Komen.

The Buckmiller Family, after more than 80 years of dedicated funeral service to Naugatuck and the surrounding communities, has passed the baton to two well know, local Naugatuck families. Jeffrey R. Thurston, a 28 year licensed funeral director and embalmer, is the son of Myrna (Long) Thurston and the late James F. Thurston, Jr. Jeff was born and raised in Naugatuck and grew up working in what was then the family run oil and ice business, D. Thurston and Sons, on Rubber Avenue. His wife, Melissa Thurston is a Southington native and together they own and operate the Rowe Funeral Home in Litchfield, where they currently reside with their one year old daughter, Morgan. James A. Mengacci, a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 34 years, and the former owner of the Fitzgerald-Zembruski-Mengacci Funeral Homes, is a lifelong resident of Naugatuck and an active member of the local community. Jim is the son of Connie (Gallucci) Mengacci of Naugatuck and the late Adam T. Mengacci. Jim is the proud father of James A.Mengacci, Jr., and Michael R. Mengacci both of Naugatuck. Jim, Jeff and Melissa are well known for the high quality, compassionate care that they have been providing for many years.

We have completed the carpeting and refinishing of the hardwood floors. Our West Chapel is now 1,00 square feet after taking down the separating walls. We will be updating the awning soon to Navy Blue with our new name in Gold lettering. We will also be painting and wallpapering soon.

Kindly excuse our appearance as we are renovating the funeral home. We are replacing the existing carpeting, re-finishing the hardwood floors and expanding our West Chapel. We have opened up the walls separating the two rooms to create one large room.
