Obituary for Alfred Harlow Holmes

Naugatuck, CT Alfred Harlow Holmes, 92, the husband of Jean Livermore Holmes, died peacefully on June 19, 2018.

Al was born on January 26, 1926 in Plymouth, MA, the son of the late Kendall Harlow Holmes and Marion Kendrick Holmes. He was a Mayflower descendant of former Governor William Bradford. He lived in Naugatuck for over 50 years. Al graduated from Burdett College in Boston after serving his country in World War II in the US Navy. Al then worked in purchasing at Uniroyal, Inc., retiring after over 30 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. He was an accomplished photographer and videographer, skier, fisherman, animal lover, aviation enthusiast and an avid traveler, having visited every continent and 47 countries.

In addition to Jean, his wife of 67 years, Al is survived by his son, Kendall Scotton Holmes and his wife Elizabeth; his daughter, Dana Jean McAllister and her husband Wayne; his grandchildren, Jamie Lyn Broad, Sean Kendall Martin, David Holmes Martin, Caitlin Evangelista, Elizabeth Lyons Martin, Patrick Bradford Martin and Hannah Scotton Martin; his great grandchildren, Mya Evangelista, Addison Broad, Ashton Broad, Avery Broad and Noa Palmieri, and his son in law, Chris Martin. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his daughter, Dianne Holmes Martin and his sisters, Lois Dunham and Mimi Smart.

All services will be private and there are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of CT, 386 Main St, Middletown, CT 06457.
