Woodbury, CT – Anne M. (Gallucci) Sweeney, 96, widow of the late William T. “Bill” Sweeney, passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2018.

Anne was born on November 3, 1921 in Waterbury, CT a daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Scarano) Gallucci. Anne lived in Naugatuck her entire life, until 2006 when she and Bill moved to Woodbury. Anne graduated from Naugatuck High School, Class of 1939 and worked in the payroll department of Uniroyal until her retirement; and later went on to work at the Naugatuck Tax Assessors Office. Anne and Bill owned and operated Leary’s Package Store on Spring Street in Naugatuck for many years. Anne was a communicant at St. Francis of Assisi Church and a supporter of the Fresh Air Fund.

Anne is survived by her brother, Donald Gallucci; her nieces, Jill DePasquale, Carole Gallucci, Janet Gallucci, Margaret Gallucci, and Mary Gallucci-Phillips; her nephews, Jay Donahue, Joseph Gallucci, Thomas Gallucci, and Robert Simon and several cousins. In addition to her husband and her parents, Anne was predeceased by her sisters, Christine Gallucci, Amelia Gallucci-Cirio, and Concetta Piazza; and her brothers, Joseph Gallucci and Thomas Gallucci.

Anne’s family would like to thank TLC Homecare, VITAS Hospice, and the staff at Waterbury Hospital for their kindness and for the compassionate care they provided.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone attending is asked to please go directly to church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Anne’s memory, contributions can be made to VITAS Hospice, 199 Park Rd Extension, Ste. 102, Middlebury, CT 06762; the Fresh Air Fund, 633 Third Avenue, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10017, or St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck, CT 06770.
