Obituary for George H. Hine

George H.  Hine
George H. Hine, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 in his Naugatuck home.

George was born on August 17, 1927 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. George was an accomplished two sport star at Central High School leading his football team at quarterback and captain of the baseball team catching behind the plate. George thereafter joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during WWII. Upon his return after the war he commenced his 40 year career at Sikorsky prior to his retirement in 1988. George moved to Naugatuck in 1976 of which he resided for the remainder of his life.

George loved sports, he frequented many school games and became known as Uncle George to many within the town of Naugatuck. His favorite time of the year always was college basketball season following the UCONN Husky woman’s basketball team.

George never married, but dedicated his life caring for his family. George cared for his mom and dad during their final years and provided guiding support to his six brothers and sisters throughout his life. George was a mentor, role model and father figure to his nephew Rich Leask and nieces Joanna and Kim. His unconditional love inspired all.

George was an avid cook and loved his vegetable garden. Each summer he looked forward to jarring the different vegetables from his garden of which he acquired the nickname “Pickles”.

George’s life will stay forever as an inspiration for his family, Richard Leask and wife Judy of Glendale, Arizona, Joanna Leask and her husband Bill, residing in Brooklyn, New York and Kim Hoffer and her husband Jerry residing in Aurora, Colorado. George was predeceased by his siblings, Charles Hine, Robert Hine, Fredrick Hine and Lucy Carignan. George is survived by two sisters, Barbara McGee, residing in Naugatuck, Connecticut and Beverly Mealey, residing in East Haven, Connecticut with her husband Edward.

Funeral Services will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
