Obituary for Muriel M. (Keyes) (Sporbert) Marinara

Muriel M. (Keyes) (Sporbert) Marinara
Waterbury, CT Muriel M. (Keyes) (Sporbert) Marinara, 92, the widow of Frederick Edward Sporbert and Carmen Marinara, died peacefully on July 20, 2017 at Beacon Brook Health Center Naugatuck, surrounded by family.

Muriel was born on January 8, 1925 in New Haven, CT, the daughter of the late Everett Keyes, Sr. and Martha (Lendroth) Keyes. A 1944 graduate of New Haven’s Commercial High School, she was among the earliest customers at Pepe’s Pizzeria and considered Light House Point her favorite place on earth. Muriel lived most of her life in Waterbury and retired from Timex Corporation, where she worked as an inspector for 39 years. She became a fixture at the Palladino Senior Center, where she made sure birthdays were celebrated.

Muriel was an exuberant fan of the CT Lady Huskies. She loved card games and was an avid bingo player. She had great style, knew how to shop a tag sale and, in her 80s, stole the scene while dancing in the window at her grandson’s wedding.

Muriel is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Sporbert) Desjardins, with whom she resided; her grandchildren, Jason Desjardins with his wife Lisa of Alexandria, VA and John Desjardins of Urbana, IL; her great grandson, Max Desjardins (Alexandria); her brother, Everett Keyes Jr. of Hamden, CT, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Frederick Everett Sporbert of Watertown, CT and her sister, Eleanor Keyes Stopkowski of Cheshire, CT.

A Memorial Celebration will take place on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10:00am at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Burial will be private and there are no calling hours.
