Naugatuck, CT Mrs. Catherine Ellen (Duffy) Garrett, age 78, of Naugatuck, the wife of the late Dorsey “Pa” Garrett, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2016 after a brief illness.
Catherine was born on July 10, 1938 in Naugatuck, the daughter of the late Edward and Florence Duffy. She was the only daughter amongst 4 brothers, all of whom have passed away before her, Edward, Richard, Jeremiah and James. Catherine had retired from nursing at Griffin Hospital; where she spent time taking care of children on the pediatric floor. She loved being around people, and especially her grandchildren, telling them stories about her youth and her family.
Catherine is survived by her loving children, her son and bedside companion, David Garrett, her daughter, Kathleen Crabtree, her son, Dorsey Garrett and wife Beth and daughter, Karen Hummel and husband Lloyd Hummel of Oxford. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Michael, David, Jr., Samantha, Dorsey, Kelly, Catherine, Lloyd and Elizabeth and one great-grandchild, Xander Shanks, as well as her best friends, Chris Duffy, Judy and Regis Bergeron.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Those attending are kindly asked to please meet at Church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
