Edward S.  Merancy Sr.
Naugatuck, CT Edward S. Merancy, Sr., 84, the husband of Dolores (Bigert) Merancy, died peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Beacon Brook Health Center.
Mr. Merancy was born on July 1, 1931 in Derby, CT the son of the late Frank and Katherine (Kozak) Merancy and was a Naugatuck resident for the past 50 years. He retired from AVCO Lycoming in Stratford, where he worked as an engineer for 37 years. Ed then began a second career with the State of CT as a teacher at the Sikorsky Airframe & Powerplant School of Aviation, where he also served as a union steward. Ed was recognized worldwide as an expert regarding the T55 gas turbine engine, and was often called upon to assist with matters relating to the T55. Ed was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife Dolores of Naugatuck, Ed is survived by his son, Ronald J. “Rick” Merancy and his wife Nadine Merancy of Naugatuck; his sister, Joan Pollock and her husband William Pollock of Old Saybrook, CT; his grandchildren, John and his wife Nujoud, Jason, Lori, Kara, Kirby and her husband Greg and Kassie; his great grandchildren, Rebekah, Zara and Xavier and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his sons Edward S. Merancy, Jr. and Joseph Merancy and his daughter, Donna Locke.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:30am at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30am. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble Saturday at 10:30 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, to honor Ed’s memory contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708.
